The Hunger Games: 'Catching Fire' Box Office stuns with $161.1 Million Opening, Surpasses First Film

 THE HUNGER GAMES: Catching Fire has outreached expectations and broken the box office record for this month with a $161.1 million opening!

According to THR, the sequel,which brought back starring jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth to name a few, the fourth highest-grossing opening weekend of all time. Marvel's The Avengers holds the all-time record with $207.4 million, which is follwed by Iron Man: 3 with $174.1 million and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 with $169.1 milliom.

The Consequence was on pace for this massive opening,  earning $25.3 million on Thursday night and early Friday, its studio appraised.

Catching Fire was earn $307.7 million world in 65 territories.

In second place was Thor: The Dark World, starring chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman, which brought in an another $14.1 million.

The Best Man Holiday - a consequel starring Taye Tiggs, Terrence Howard, and more - held strong at No. 3 with a $12.5 million gross.

Gobal out the top five were vince vaughn's Delivery Man and the animated Free Birds, bringing in $8.2 million and $5.3 million, respectively.
