No US
poll observers to Bangladesh
The US
government had informed on Monday that it will not be sending any poll
observers to the general elections to be held in Bangladesh on January 5.
There had been speculations that the White
House might send poll observers to Bangladesh
as it did in Nepal .
However Jen Psaki, state department spokeswoman had issued a statement
informing that the United
States will not be deploying any observers.
The statement also urges major parties to observe peaceful dialogue and build
their efforts towards fair and peaceful elections.
The opposition
parties had earlier called for boycott of elections and there had been sporadic
violence being reported from across the country.
